The Lotteries and Gambling Supervision Inspection of the Republic of Latvia has introduced several legislative amendments for the consideration of the Parliament. Their main goal is making regulations of online gambling tougher.

According to the Inspection members, it should be necessary for the citizens to enter personal data (name, surname, and birthdate) as well as an ID during registration on the gambling website. The Inspection Director Signe Birne notes that gambling has significantly grown in popularity. The proposed amendment would protect minors.

A user’s identity and a true age will be recognized by their bank account as well as data provided by the Office of Citizenship and Migration Affairs of the Republic of Latvia.

The amendments are likely to be introduced taking into consideration the country policy towards gambling market.
