95% of UK football broadcasts contain gambling ads

BBC’s Victoria Derbyshire show revealed the research results of advertising content appeared in UK broadcasted football games. Specialists found out that 95% of all televised 2017/2018 season matches included ads promoting gambling, according to iGaming Business.

study involved 25 games shown by such TV channels as Sky Sports, BT Sport, and ITV. They contained more than 1.3 thousand advertising clips with 272 of them being related to the gambling market.

The average share of gambling in total advertising content is 20%. Besides, some matches showed even the higher rate: 1/3. 40% of the adverts and sponsorship indents were related to gambling during the Europa League match between English Premier League team Everton and Apollon Limassol of Cyprus.

same BBC material included the opinion by Matt Zarb-Cousin, speaking on behalf of the Campaign for Fairer Gambling. He said that the government must take action to lower the current level of gambling ads shown on television.
