Three Latvian clubs disqualified for participation in fix matches

11 July 2017

Babite, Salaspils and Dobele Sirius were disqualified. The first team is the participant of the Latvian Higher League, others participated in the second division. All three clubs are suspended from participation in the Latvian Football Cup.

The first one was Babite. The football club was expelled from the Higher League in February after receiving the sixth warning from UEFA regarding the unfair game.

Salaspils and Dobele Sirius were disqualified after the beginning of the Latvian Cup. On June 15 during a match between Progress and Sirius, the judges noted a strange game of the latter. Players made many mistakes and often passed the passes to their rivals. As a result, the match was stopped and the team was disqualified.

On June 19, almost the same scenario was repeated with the Salaspils, which competed with Jurnieks Riga.

Match-fixing is a common practice in sports. Riga Gaming Congress will reveal the details of how to resist this phenomenon on October 12.

In particular, the general director of Federbet Francesco Baranca will list the most effective methods of fighting fix matches in e-sports and fantasy sports.
