Merger is not going to happen: two US major DFS operators refuse to cooperate

20 July 2017

DraftKings and FanDuel say that they won’t sign a cooperation agreement in favor of supporting robust competition on the daily fantasy sports market.

Since the end of previous year, two US major DFS operators have discussed a merger agreement. And they would have signed it if the Federal Trade Commission had not intervened. Commission representatives said that the merge would adversely affect competition, as 90% of the market would be controlled by one company. Initially, DraftKings and FanDuel were going to challenge this decision but later agreed and cancelled the deal.

Nigel Eccles, CEO at FanDuel, said that this decision was made in order to please shareholders, company members and players. Jason Robins, СЕО at DraftKings, said that both companies would anyway focus on providing customers with more qualitative innovative services. The NFL season is coming and, according to Robins, it will be the best one in the daily fantasy sports history.

We would like to remind that the UK Gambling Commission has warned DFS operators of conducting advertising campaigns and organizing competitions in accordance with the acting law. Otherwise, operators should pay huge money compensation.
