Researchers at the University of East Anglia came to a conclusion that Twitter posts are much more effective in predicting the outcome of football matches than Betfair specialized service, SBC News reported.

It was proved that if during the match fans posted on Twitter positive posts mostly, then their team won with more probability than predicted by the Betfair exchange coefficient.

Among other services, one of the world's largest betting exchanges Betfair offers odds on the results of football matches. After analyzing about 14 million publications on Twitter, which were made during the games of the English Premier League season 2013/2014, the researchers compared the results with the Betfair predictions.

Specialists of the University School of Economics calculated that among about 900 000 bets, the use of the said social network provide an average profit of almost 2.3%. With an increase in the number of rates to 4 million, the average loss is estimated at 5.4%.

According to the British researchers, this is an amazing result.
