Member of Saeima offers to hold a cash receipt lottery

31 August 2017

Imants Paradnieks, a member of the 12th Saeima of the National Alliance, has offered the Parliament to organize a nationwide cash receipt lottery. He believes that this concept will not only encourage people to pay taxes but will also bring additional 8 million euros to the country’s budget.

This idea was supported by other Latvian MPs during the coalition council meeting. Money collected in such a way are suggested to use for the family support strategy.

Cash receipt lotteries when paying for goods are already held in such countries as Malta, Poland, Slovakia and Portugal. The Maltese lottery is distinguished by the fact that winners receive the sum, exceeding the cost of their purchase 100 times.

The Lithuanian government is also interested in this issue and will start holding cash receipt lotteries from November 2017. Each month, citizens of the country will get a chance to win 5000 euros.
